Alternatives to Botox Can Reduce Wrinkles Without Injections !
Also referred to as cosmeceuticals, they are a brand new breed of cosmetics. Having drug like benefits to treat or cure a condition, these cutting edge anti wrinkle treatments are currently at the forefront of the
battle against facial wrinkles and for prevention of aging skin.
An amazing new class of ingredients, known as Synthetic Peptides, appear to have the power to reduce the length and depth of facial wrinkles. So you can look forward to a future without hanging cheeks and dewlaps.
Among the different peptide molecules, the most common on skin cream ingredient lists are palmitoyl pentapeptide-3, palmitoyl oligopeptide and acetyl hexapeptide-3. Although they appear similar in name, they are not interchangeable.
Each peptide is believed to have a slightly different effect on human skin cells. Palmitoyl pentapeptide-3 and palmitoyl oligopeptide may have the power to stimulate the production of collagen in skin cells. Acetyl hexapeptide-3 is supposed to relax facial muscles, so allowing the skin layer covering the muscles to also relax.
In 2003, a cream named StriVectin-SD, was introduced as a stretch mark treatment but became the top-selling beauty product in U.S. department stores after people started using it as an anti-wrinkle cream.
Since then, every major cosmetic giant has launched its customised peptide based anti aging cream. Olay has its Regenerist line; Estée Lauder has Perfectionist; Avon has Anew; Clinique has Repairwear Deep Wrinkle Concentrate; DDF has Wrinkle Release, each with its own customised blend of peptide ingredients. In Canada, DermaGlow has NuVectin.
Estrin-D, which contains DHEA, a steroid hormone, is available for purchase from online stores.
It is still not clear whether peptide creams can change skin substantially and consistently. However, users of these products proclaim to be more than satisfied - despite the high price tags on these products, and a class action case slapped on against the manufacturers of StriVectin. We've seen some glowing testimonials, including some from high-flying media professionals (who have to be careful of what they report). Some users of StriVectin have noticed firmer skin tone within a few weeks of use and love the rejuvenation in their complexions.
If you do try one of these new generation skin creams, we'd advise that you do your homework first - check out what active ingredient is in the formulation and the concentration of the active peptide in the cream. Clinical studies quoted in marketing materials normally test one ingredient rather than the final combination of ingredients in the formulation. And sometimes the strength used in the formulation is not the same as that in the clinical study.
Another new ingredient in the fight against facial wrinkles is Mexoryl SX. The new ingredient is known to prevent wrinkles because it blocks both UVB and UVA rays. And while UVA rays don't cause sunburn, scientists have recently learned that they penetrate deep into the skin and break down collagen, creating wrinkles, sagging and discolouration.
According to a study published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, Mexoryl is about twice as effective as the more common UVA blocks - titanium dioxide, zinc oxide and avobenzene. As a result, sunblocks containing Mexoryl are much sought after. Mexoryl SX has not yet been approved by the Food and Drug Administration in the U.S., but it's been accepted in Europe and Canada. Sunblocks containing this new ingredient are Anthelios L, Ombrelle Extreme and Garnier's Ambre Solaire, which are available from Canadian online drugstores.
So, we seem to have come a long way since Juan Ponce de Leon, the Spanish explorer sailed around the Florida coast in search of the legendary "Fountain of Youth"..the secret to being young again forever. However the quest remains the same - a way to preserve the good looks of youth, to avoid losing any of our faculties or senses,as we age.
