ATTENTION ALL ARTHRITIS
SUFFERERS!
In the USA 16,500 people die every year from
drugs prescribed
for Arthritic pain and inflammation. In Britain the number is
around
2000 deaths every year. These NSAIDs, (non-steroidal,
anti-inflammatory drugs), which include ibuprofen and aspirin,
kill pain effectively, but irritate the stomach lining in some
patients,
causing ulcers and bleeding. Severe cases may lead to death.
DO NOT BECOME A STATISTIC. Check out a treatment
that stops Arthritic pain and repairs cartilage, even as it
acts on the cause of the disease.

FROM THE HEART: A
note from Jay & Roshmi
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello ,
Well, we are fast approaching the Holiday Season.
It's supposed to be a happy time. A time to spend
with family, away from the rat race for a few days, right? Maybe
some gifts for family members, and a nice dinner together (which
you, of course, have to cook!).
So, why is there so much tension in the air? It's
tangible! And it relates to many different issues.
Is there going to be a war with Iraq?
Are you going to be able to remain employed in
the New Year?
Why are there so many homeless on the streets
today?
What does one do, if the stock market debacle
has wiped out one's savings?
Why are the governments in USA, and Canada, hinting
about health care cuts?
Is the global recession going to affect you?
Can you take a vacation without getting blown
up?
All these are very real issues, which affect many
of us. And the only thing we can do to cope and keep our sanity,
is to TAKE RESPONSIBILITY for those areas of our lives that
we do have some control over. The Iraq issue, the Stock Market,
our jobs, we have little control over.
But one area that we do have control over, to
a limited but still significant extent, is our HEALTH.
If the government has to cut back health care,
it will significantly affect those who need medical treatment.
It will significantly affect those who don't bother to live
a healthy lifestyle and are, consequently, in poor shape. And
that could pose a serious problem if your income is limited,
especially in your Golden Years.
So, I'm going to recommend the obvious. The very
fact that you are receiving this newsletter means that you are
a person who values health issues. So, you are probably in good
health.
If you are doing the Tibetan technique, you are
probably in great shape and looking and feeling younger with
each passing month.
So, what we strongly recommend, is that you pass
on to others the importance of maintaining one's good health.
Share the health tips that you get in "To Your Health, Letter",
and forward this newsletter to others who may benefit from it.
If you have bought the Tibetan technique video,
tell others how the practice of the Yoga based exercises has
helped you. (They see only your increased radiance, but not
ALL the improvements that are going on inside!).
If you stay in good health as the years go by,
you won't have to worry about government health cuts. You will
have looked after that problem yourself!
We started the YoungAgainForever website because
we genuinely care about people and health issues. It is so easy
to look after yourself: Exercise daily, eat moderately (the
right foods), and meditate for 15 minutes every day.
Simple? Are YOU doing it?
Be well,
Jay & Roshmi

PS: Holiday periods can be lonely and trying
for those who have to be apart during such times of togetherness.
As we well know! You can make it a time of renewal, instead
of one of despondency. If you make the time to THINK!
***** GIFT IDEA *****
Give the 40+ persons you
love a one-in-a-million gift!

TODAY IS WORLD DIABETES
DAY
Compiled from different
sources: by Roshmi Raychaudhuri
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Today, on World Diabetes Day, let's talk about this most common
form of chronic disease.
Diabetes is a disease that forces your body to
starve, even though you may be supplying it the best possible
food. An anomaly, isn't it?
Of the two types of Diabetes, Diabetes Insipidus
is far more uncommon! Diabetes Mellitus, (here again, there
are two types, I & II) affects more than 15 million people in
North America, while in the U.K there are almost 700,000 people
who have no option but to live with it. It is the disease of
an affluent society, bloated with too much food, and inadequate
exercise!
Its important to realize that DM is a failure
of metabolism! The metabolic processes being largely controlled
by hormones, both under production or over production of a specific
hormone can create mayhem in the body's internal chemistry.
In the case of DM, it is the hormone, insulin.
Normally, insulin is produced by the pancreas
and enables the body's cells to absorb the sugar glucose from
the food consumed. In Diabetes Mellitus an imbalance in the
hormonal system causes the body to lose it's ability to use
glucose for energy.
If you are healthy, your system takes the glucose
from your food and dumps it into the blood stream, where it
connects with the insulin. The insulin carry's the glucose to
your muscles and organs, where it provides the energy for everything
you do.
If you have DM, your cells have to use other sources
of energy. This leads to a build-up of unused glucose and toxic
by-products in your blood and urine. The toxins impact your
heart, kidneys and eyes, as they travel out of your system,
through the bladder.
For your organs, it's like sitting down to a
banquet without their teeth! They are left starving for food
despite the goodies heaped on the table!
The constant out-flow causes excessive thirst
and urination. It's not uncommon to pass between 5 to 26 litres
of urine in 24 hours. Unusual hunger, thirst, urination, blurred
vision, and fatigue are all SOS signals. If they remain unanswered,
the condition can develop to chronic lethargy, blindness, nerve
damge leading to amputation, coma and death.
Type I normally develops at a young age, is caused
by the failure of the pancreas to produce insulin ( or it produces
too little). The more common kind, type II, develops mainly
after age 40. The pancreas continues to produce insulin, but
the cells in the body become resistant to its effects.
The frightening part is that it develops so slowly,
that it may go unnoticed for years! And though genetics has
a part to play, obesity and a sedantary lifestyle are the factors
that are most at work here.
DM is a permanent condition, without any known
cure. (Type I is treated by insulin injections, type II through
lifestyle changes and some medication).
That is the reason the following PREVENTIVE MEARURES
are so important!
SHED YOUR GUT: Obese people are at high risk.
Specially if they carry fat on their middles. Just remember
that gut fat is different from other fat and pre-disposes you
to diabetes. To work out whether you fall into this high-risk
group, measure your hip (at the widest point) and your waist
(at the narrowest point). Divide the waist measurement by the
hip measurement. The factor for women is around 0.8. If it works
out to 1 or higher, you need to take immediate preventive measures.
MONITOR YOUR BLOOD: Your blood is the indicator.
Check insulin levels when you test glucose. Around half of those
diagnosed with Diabetes have fasting blood sugar levels of 100
to 120 milligrams.
DIET CONTROL: Refer to previous issues for guidance.
If you have read even a couple of issues of this newsletter,
you will know what makes up a healthy eating regimen!
EXERCISE: A recent study at the Cooper Institute
for Aerobics Research, in Dallas, found that staying fit may
be the most crucial measure for avoiding Type 2 diabetes.
Researchers put 8,633 men (whose average age was
43) through a treadmill test and recorded their physical condition. The
same group was screened for diabetes six years later.
And what did they find? That the men who'd scored
poorly on the fitness test 6 years ago, were almost four times
more likely to show signs of the disease, than those who'd done
well.
In fact, the fitness scores predicted with uncanny
accuracy, which members of the group would get diabetes! They
were the ones who had scored poorly on the fitness test.
It was more accurate than any other yardstick,
such as age, obesity level, high blood pressure, or even genetics.
Women are particularly vulnerable, as they are
affected by one other factor that does not impact men; the hormone
testosterone! The higher the level of this hormone, the higher
the chances of developing diabetes.
So for women there is one more reason to keep
the hormonal system in balance.
What does this mean? If you're sedentary now,
find ways to incorporate more physical activity into your everyday
life! A 30 minute daily work-out of moderate intensity exercises
is what we suggest.
And, if it is an exercise regimen that balances
the hormonal system, as well.such as the Tibetan Technique,
so much the better!
You can shoo away (we don't like kill) 2 birds
with one stone!

LITTLE ACTIONS THAT PRODUCE
BIG RESULTS: IODINE
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
An under-active thyroid may be partly due to an iodine deficiency.Your
body needs iodine in order to manufacture thyroxin, the thyroid
hormone.
However, there's an excellent test you can do
at home to check your iodine levels.
Simply take a Q-tip, dip it into a 2% tincture
of iodine (available at the drug store or supermarket), and
paint an area the size of a silver dollar on your thigh or belly.
This will leave a yellowish stain that should
disappear in about 24 hours if your iodine levels are normal.
If the stain disappears in UNDER 24 hours, it
means your body is deficient in iodine and has thirstily sucked
it up. If that's the case, keep applying the iodine every 24
hours, at different sites, until the stain lasts a full 24 hours.
Not only will you have diagnosed your iodine deficiency,
you will have treated that deficiency and improved your thyroid
function.
But DO NOT cut back on your thyroid medication
until you have consulted your doctor.

******* DIET TIP ********
The whole garlic family (which includes leeks,
chives, shallots and scallions) contain allylic sulfides
and other compounds that may work against tumor formation.
They also benefit the heart. However, remember, that cooked
onions, garlic and so on, are most effective when eaten raw.

REVIEW OF SERVICES: Dental Plans
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Regular and systematic dental checkups are essential
for our overall health and well-being - to prevent onset of
the many diseases that have been found to start from the teeth.
Dental plans seem to be the way to go, because of the hassle
free set-up they offer, and the considerable savings that
are available to Members.
For example, a teeth cleaning session at the Dentist, which
normally costs about $85, would become available to Members
for about $35. Plans start at $79 per YEAR. It makes sense
to join one of the many plans offered. Info at
: http://www.younagainforever.com/Dental_Plans.htm
******RECOMMENDATION******
Physical activity works against Type 2 diabetes
at its source. The disease gets its start when
muscle cells lose their sensitivity to insulin,
the pancreatic hormone that controls levels
of sugar in the blood. For some reason, your
muscle cells are much less likely to shun
insulin if you keep them fit through regular
exercise. 'The Tibetan Technique' is a set
of re-discovered exercises, which helps to
balance the hormonal system while providing
low to moderate intensity movements for
your well-being and health. More info at:

GUEST Column : by Lester Levenson
LESTER LEVENSON'S AMAZING
STORY
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I was born July 19, 1909 in Elizabeth, New Jersey
into a middle class family as a very shy person. I tried to do
things the way they were supposed to be done -- doing the right
thing, getting a good education, and being the best in my field.
My natural inclination was towards science. Especially the science
of the world, and of man himself. I graduated from Rutgers University
in 1931 as a physicist, after which I worked 20 some years in
physics and engineering.
"I also went into various businesses, including
restaurants, lumber, building and oil, intertwined with engineering,
wanting to make money-- wanting to make it in the world. At that
time, I did not know what I now know -- that what I was seeking
was actually the answers to life itself. And nothing that I had
worked at would give me that answer. As the years went by, I became
heavy with depression and with sickness. By 1952, I had been through
constant illness -- I even had jaundice three or so times a year.
I had an enlarged liver, kidney stones, spleen trouble, hyper
and hypos acidity, ulcers that perforated and formed lesions,
and to top it off, I had at least 10 years of migraine headaches.
"This all culminated in 1952 when I had my second
coronary thrombosis."
"After the second coronary, I was told I would not
live much longer -- that I might die any day and shouldn't make
the effort to take so much as a step unless I necessarily had
to. I was extremely fearful of dying, but I said to myself,
"You're still breathing, Lester -- there is still
a chance." So I sat down and began thinking on an "around the
clock" basis. I had been considered a very smart boy. I always
made the honor roll. I had been the recipient of a four-year scholarship
to Rutgers back in the days when not many scholarships were handed
out. But then being told after my second heart attack that I wouldn't
live, I said to myself, "Lester, you are stupid, stupid, stupid."
"Having lived 42 or so years, and having reached
the end of the line without happiness, without health -- therefore
all this knowledge you have accumulated is of no avail. I had
studied Watson's behavior in the 30's and Freud's in the late
30's and early 40's. I had studied the philosophies. I had studied
logic. I studied economics. I studied all the major fields of
man, and with all that knowledge there; I was at the end of the
line. This made me realize that... "The Accumulated Knowledge
of Man Was of No Use."
"So I decided to start from scratch. Forget all
that knowledge. Begin from point 0 and see what you can pick up.
So, I posed some pretty basic questions and asking myself what
I really wanted out of life. "I began to get some answers. Investigating
further, I made some startling discoveries. And I started getting
better.
"I began correcting all my thoughts and feelings
in that direction. And in that process, I discovered I was getting
happier, freer, lighter, and feeling better in general. I continued
until all the ailments I had in my physical body corrected. All
my miseries dropped away. And I ended up in a place in which I
was happy all the time, without sorrow. "Not that the world stopped
pushing against me -- it continued -- but I was at a place where
I could resolve things almost immediately. Having cleared out
the negative fears, all the negative 'I can not's,' I would focus
right on the answer to every problem, and get it very quickly.
And so, My whole life turned around from being depressed and sick,
to being happy and in perfect health all the time!
"One of the things that happened in this process
was my identification with others. I saw that we are all related
we are all inter- connected -- each mind is like a radio broadcasting
and receiving station. That we are all tuned into each other unconsciously
-- that we are just not aware of it. That life was meant to be
beautiful... meant to be happy all the time with no sorrow. And
to be with perfect health. And so after reaching that high point
of understanding in 1952, I have wanted to help others to discover
what I had discovered."
"I Believe If I Can Do It, Anyone Can Do It."
